We all know what the menopause is, but do you know much about perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the period of time when a woman’s body starts to transition towards menopause. It typically starts in a woman’s 40s but can start earlier or later. During perimenopause, a woman’s hormone levels start to fluctuate, which can cause a variety of symptoms. Some common signs of perimenopause include:

  • Irregular periods: As hormone levels fluctuate, periods may become irregular, shorter, or longer.
  • Hot flashes and night sweats: These sudden feelings of heat and sweating can be uncomfortable and disrupt sleep.
  • Mood changes: Hormonal changes can cause mood swings, irritability, and anxiety.
  • Vaginal dryness: As Estrogen levels decrease, vaginal tissues can become thin and dry, causing discomfort during sex.
  • Changes in libido: Some women experience a decrease in sex drive during perimenopause.
  • Sleep disturbances: Night sweats, hot flashes, and mood changes can all interfere with sleep.
  • Fatigue: Hormonal changes can cause fatigue and a lack of energy.
  • Memory problems: Some women experience forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating during perimenopause.

It’s important to note that not all women will experience all these symptoms, and some women may have very few symptoms at all. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and are concerned, you should speak with your healthcare provider to ensure there are no other issues or causes of your symptoms.
